Mike, or “Beady” as we know him, started early in motorcycle trials and time trials, moving to Enduro’s at the age of 16 and continued to gain many successes including winning the British 175 championship a year later. He has competed on the world stage riding in International Six Day Enduro’s (ISDE) and World Championship Enduro races.
From a family of racers and engineers, Beady has built over 60 vehicles for Dakar along with preparing Works KTM’s replicas. His Dakar Rally experience is invaluable to Excite Team GB (he has competed three times and served eight as a Team Manager) as well as that of the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies and the Africa Eco Race.
Beady has also appeared on broadcasts for Dakar Press and as an expert for the popular Channel 4 programme Scrapheap Challenge.
Phil is our most “senior” crew member and as a result is highly experienced and qualified in the world of rallying and engineering.
He began as a Marine Engineer, before dedicating 36 years as a Higher Education tutor in Vehicle Engineering. Alongside his career he has accumulated 28 of years rally driving to national level and building race engines for other drivers.
He has competed in a respectable list of marques, including Ford Escort Mk1, Mk2 & Group 4 RS 2000, Sierra Cosworth, Timo Mäkinen’s Mini Cooper S and Jimmy McRae’s full works Opel Ascona – achieving a Top 10 in Welsh National Championships and also has competitive results in other disciplines including off-roading and off-shore powerboat racing.
Consultant (Middle East)
David Jones is specialised in the training, languages and automotive sectors with extensive business links in the Middle East region including the United Arab Emirates.
Alongside his work for Excite Team GB, he writes articles for the motoring press and runs an all-marques club for sports and GT cars whose members enjoy European road trips and other special meetings.
